Features of the festival

The festival is staged over four days to entice festival goers to taste and purchase their way through literally tons of cheese.

Checkers Cheese Emporium

This air-conditioned marquee remains the meeting place of cheese lovers. Here cheese manufacturers, wine cellars and related product exhibitors proudly showcase the results of their labour. They offer tastings, educate interested food lovers and sell to those who want to prolong the enjoyment by taking home some of the fine products. Exhibitors reiterate every year that the Cheese Festival is the ideal platform to launch new products and to get feedback from the public.

Cheese Market & Market Square

A unique country fair atmosphere is established here, with people tasting products and others relaxing on the Market Square while enjoying their purchase of the day.

The Mall

The Mall is the place to find a variety of delicacies to complement the cheese you acquired, like fresh fruit, nuts, wine, bread and preserve. A new enlarged leisure area in front of the mall, with live music and a variety of food stands, will provide seating and entertainment to visitors.

Gourmet Lane and Ladismith Cheese Music Gazebo

The Gazebo in the middle of the leisure area is the stage for the band BRAWOU!, setting the atmosphere for old friends getting together or families enjoying a fun filled day in the country. People can fill their plates with food from one of the top restaurants in the lane and enjoy a glass of wine under the big old oak trees.

Cheese Chiller, Theatre and Games Room

In these tents on the Dairy Square, teenagers can chill out by watching DSTv channels, play games and be entertained by cartoon characters and magic shows.

KWV Media and Sponsors Lounge

Agri-Expo believes that the presence of members of the media as well as trade representatives is very important at the Festival. KWV sponsors a convenient lounge where media, trade and sponsors can network with exhibitors and cheese makers.

Wilde Fruit Juices Kiddies Corner and Snack Food Lane

Parents can enjoy all the Festival has to offer, while their children are entertained in a variety of ways on inflatable play stations and by professional entertainers and face painters. The small ones can participate in colouring in competitions, get rid of their energy on the jumping castle or watch the clown perform. Their own snack food lane in the Kiddies Corner will ensure that no one goes home hungry.

The Milk factory

Visitors can experience the first step in the production line of cheese by tasting fresh milk from the different dairy breeds of cattle, goats and sheep on show in this lane. Kleinplasie Museum from Worcester keep spectators glued to their seats with demonstrations on the traditional method of butter and cottage cheese making.

The Cooking Pot

This demonstration kitchen remains one of the most popular features at the festival and succeeds in its aim to entertain and educate and in 2010 “entertain” is the keyword. Well known chefs share the secrets of their favourite dishes with the audience. When these chefs demonstrate their creating art, cheese will get a whole new meaning as the main ingredient in a variety of dishes. Interactive sessions will bring cheese lovers up to speed with the paring of cheese and its ideal partners.

The Nampak Exhibitors' Breakfast

This remains a popular get-together for exhibitors during the Festival and an important opportunity for Agri-Expo to thank exhibitors for their presence and continuous support of the SA Cheese Festival. The event will take place on the Saturday morning of the festival and the best stands are also awarded at this event.

Festival Programme

In 2010 visitors can once again expect the popular Festival Programme booklet to help them plan their day for optimum enjoyment and will contain ground layouts, exhibitor listings and the Cooking Pot programme. The results of the 2009 SA Dairy Championships - Qualité Awards winners and the Dairy Product of the Year will be big news. Be on the lookout for new cheese makers and their innovate products. Competitions will bring smiles to the faces of many lucky winners.

Gates & ATM

Visitors can enter the festival grounds through the FNB orange Gate via Bien Donné Werf from the direction of Franschhoek or through the FNB blue Gate via the Watergat Road from the direction of Paarl. There will also be a FNB ATM and speedpoints.

ATM, MUSIC SPOT & SMALL CHEESE MAKERS

ATM's will be available on the premises for the convenience of visitors. Werner Denner, musician and multi instrumentalist will entertain visitors from the Music Spot in the Dairy Square. Absa is also once again sponsoring upcoming small cheese makers to exhibit at the Cheese Festival and consumers can look forward to an array of interesting new cheeses at this year's Festival.
