NATIONAL DAIRY CHAMPIONSHIP The prestigious SA Dairy Championship, presented by Agri-Expo, is the largest competition of its kind in the country and makes provision for participation by all interested groups - from farm cheesemakers to national dairy producers. The 2002 SA Dairy Championship has attracted a record 374 entries competing for sought-after trophies and titles in six categories - butter, cheese, cottage cheese, yoghurt, cultured & flavoured milk and ice cream/frozen dessert. Each dairy product is judged blind on appearance, colour, structure and taste by a specialist panel of five judges using the internationally recognised 20-point system. Of the products entered this year, 50 were crowned SA Champions and 18 superior quality dairy products were also capped with a Qualité Award. Only those champion dairy products that excel by scoring 17.5 or more points out of 20, are awarded a Qualité Award - the country's highest honour for excellence in the making of dairy products. The Awards also serve as an endorsement of quality for the consumer. This year Parmalat boasts the most coveted titles and awards, namely 9 SA Championship trophies and five Qualité Awards. Lancewood came a close second with 8 SA Champion products and five Qualité Awards. Black and gold Qualité labels will be displayed on winning products,
serving as a quality guideline to consumers. Look out for dairy products
bearing the Qualité emblem or use this booklet as a guide.
