About Us

The Cape of Good Hope Agricultural Society has been presenting agricultural shows in the Western Cape since 1831 and is still fulfilling a leading role in the promotion of agriculture. Since 1996 the Societys shows, training, expos and sponsorships have been carried out under the Agri-Expo banner.

Agri-Expo is the organiser of the SA Cheese Festival, presented annually as a showcase for cheese in South Africa.

Agri-Expo also supports the industry with amongst other, the following activities:

  • Southern Africa Dairy Championships this annual event has become the regions only and leading such like event. Winners are announced at the Lake Foods Qualit Awards Dinner two days prior to the South Africa Cheese Festival.

Class winners are awarded the title of SA Champion

Qualit Awards are granted to outstanding cheeses, which earn more than a specific number of points. This award indicates the very best products of its type for the year.

This product is selected from the group of Qualit Award winners as the Dairy Product of the Year

  • Cheese making scholarship
Agri-Expo is the facilitator and project manager for the annual French Cheese Making Fellowships. A generous sponsorship from the Western Cape Department of Agriculture and the Regional Council of Burgundy makes it possible to train four young cheese makers in Burgundy in the art of cheese making.

  • International cheese competitions
Agri-Expo is the appointed Southern African representative and co-ordinator for the two biggest cheese competitions in the world namely the UK based World Cheese Awards and the USA managed World Championship Cheese Contest. This service enables local cheese makers to exhibit at international competitions to benchmark their cheeses against the very best in the world regularly with outstanding results.

  • South African cheese website - www.cheesesa.co.za
This website was established by Agri-Expo during 2003 to inform local and international cheese lovers and interested parties about the industry and its products. The website is visited by some 20 000 visitors per month.
