The Cape of Good Hope Agricultural Society has been presenting agricultural
shows in the Western Cape since 1831 and is still fulfilling a leading role in the
promotion of agriculture. Since 1996 the Society�s shows, training, expos
and sponsorships have been carried out under the Agri-Expo banner.
Agri-Expo is the organiser of the SA Cheese Festival, presented annually as
a showcase for cheese in South Africa.
Agri-Expo also supports the industry with amongst other, the following activities:
- Southern Africa Dairy Championships � this annual event has
become the region�s only and leading such like event. Winners are announced
at the Lake Foods Qualit� Awards Dinner two days prior to the South
Africa Cheese Festival.

Qualit� Awards are granted to outstanding
cheeses, which earn more than a specific number of points. This award
indicates the very best products of its type for the year. |

Cheese making scholarship
Agri-Expo is the facilitator and project
manager for the annual French Cheese Making Fellowships. A generous sponsorship
from the Western Cape Department of Agriculture and the Regional Council
of Burgundy makes it possible to train four young cheese makers in Burgundy
in
the art of cheese making.
International cheese competitions
Agri-Expo is the appointed Southern
African representative and co-ordinator for the two biggest cheese
competitions in the world namely the UK based World Cheese Awards and the
USA managed
World Championship Cheese Contest. This service enables local cheese
makers to exhibit at international competitions to benchmark their
cheeses against
the very best in the world � regularly with outstanding results.
